Marleen Houter was born on December
11, 1961 in Hoorn, the Netherlands. She was a member of the Dutch national
gymnastics team from 1976 to 1980. A specialist on vault, she was crowned the
Dutch National champion on this apparatus. Major meets included the 1977
European Championships, 1978 World Championships, and 1979 World Championships.
After retiring from gymnastics in
1980, Marleen was hired by de Telegraaf, a Dutch newspaper. She later switched to
television, eventually receiving her own sports program. In addition, she has
provided expert commentary for a number of Dutch gymnastics broadcasts (e.g.,
1991 USA Display in Holland). Currently she works for
SBS6 and Net5, two large Dutch stations. She continues to have her own sports
program and she also serves as a news anchor.
Marleen is married and has two
children, a son named Hassie and a daughter named Saartje. For a current photo
