2005 Gymnix International

Kristina Vaculik is the current Canadian junior women's champion. Though her win at the 2006 Canadian Championships was her first Canadian all-around title, she had twice won the all-around at Elite Canada in the novice and junior categories in 2004 and 2005. In 2005 - while still competing at the novice level - she began her international career, representing Canada at the Gymnix International, the WOGA Classic, and the Trophee Massilia competitions.

2006 has been a very successful year so far for Vaculik. After finishing eighth all-around at the Gymnix international she was named to the Canadian junior team for the Pacific Alliance Championships, where she helped Canada earn a silver medal in the team competition. Individually she finished seventh in the all-around and qualified for the apparatus finals on the uneven bars (where she took the bronze medal), balance beam (seventh) and floor exercise (sixth). These performances made Vaculik a favourite at the 2006 Canadian Championships, and she did not disappoint, winning the all-around and two apparatus titles (uneven bars and floor exercise).

Vaculik is known for her impeccable form and body line throughout all of her routines and she has no weak apparatus. On vault she can perform a layout Yurchenko-full and an Ivantcheva (RO ½ on front tuck off). On the uneven bars she shows a stalder-full Tkatchev combination and a double front dismount. She has a variety of skills on the balance beam, including a back handspring mount, a back handspring to two layout step-outs, aerial walkover, side somi, aerial cartwheel, and a round-off double tuck dismount that she initiates from one step, not a run. On floor she tumbles a 1 ½ twist through to a 2 ½, a well completed triple twist and a double pike to close. Vaculik has a bright future for Canada.
